This is my first idea of a four panel CD case, focusing on the artist. This is important to get the audience to relate to the artist, using close-ups really puts emphasis on this. Goodwin's theory also says that using close-ups is a generic part of a music video, transferring this onto the digipak is essential to marketing the product.
Panel 1 is a close-up of the artist/actors face looking over the hill(which you can't see), this image creates ambiguity and intrigues people to wonder what he is looking at. The close up of the artist looking over the city demonstrates how the artist's songs are focused around himself and what he feels and sees.
The second panel is similar to the first but demonstrates different emotion whilst showing a varied location. Again the use of the close up is essential, using a variety of angles creates are more interesting piece.Panel 1 is a close-up of the artist/actors face looking over the hill(which you can't see), this image creates ambiguity and intrigues people to wonder what he is looking at. The third panel is adding in a generic signifier of the genre, an acoustic guitar. The guitar not only shows it's relation to the music but it also creates an artistic feel, connoting that the artist is imaginative. I thought that the guitar would also work together with the CD design, creating a CD that blends into the image.
The forth panel of him standing over the hill is showing you what the artist is looking at on the first panel, pulling it together like a journey to see what he sees. The photograph of the location also creates a link for the audience, they can then relate the, selves to the artist and his album because of the location. The blue skies also add a plain area to write the name of the tracks on the album, like he is looking upon them in the sky.
These four panels are potential but could do with more development. The first panel and the third are my favorites, this is because it demonstrates the genre of the artist. The close up showing the artist in deep thought looking at what we cant see connotes artistic sensibilities as well as drawing the audience in. The guitar works well with the idea of the CD as well as showing that it is the acoustic genre.
The second panel connotes depression and melancholy which demonstrates feelings in the video but the shot doesn't add to the effect enough and could easily be revised. The last panel would work if it was closer creating more space for the track list but also more of a focus on the image.
The first panel is quite strong; the other 3 panels lack impact and creativity. The 2nd panel suggests defeat rather than success!!! Be careful here. Panel 3 is rather boring!!! Panel 4 is indecipherable!!! I think you said you were going on a photo shoot with your performer. Superimposed images of strong shots of the artist on a background i.e. seascape, city scape or other locationcould have more impact.
ReplyDeleteRemember deadline for 4 panels is by Monday 20th Period 1, and A4 advert a week later.
